GME Update – New Audio Boost for CP40 & CP50

It’s our pleasure to advise a great improvement to the audio capabilities of the CP40 and CP50 commercial portables. Our software team has enabled a new Audio Boost for GME products feature (detailed below), which can deliver an extra 12db of audio output. This enhancement therefore greatly improves the audio/volume capabilities when using an accessory such as the MC012 – IP67 Remote Speaker Microphone to suit CP40/CP50.

The latest CP40/CP50 firmware (V2.02) and programmer (V2.04) is available for download from the new GME Commercial dealer portal. https://www.gmecommercial.com.au/dealer/login/

Audio Boost’ is a feature which applies additional gain to received audio signals before the speaker output. Consequently, this increases the loudness of received audio. There are three levels of audio boost available:

  • Low: 0db gain
  • Medium: +6db gain
  • High: +12db gain (new default)

Secondly, to change the audio boost settings using the CP40/CP50 programming software:

  1. Open a CP40 or CP50 configuration.
  2. Browse to the Radio > General Settings > Audio dialog.
  3. Tick or un-tick ‘Enable Audio Boost’ to enable or disable audio boost.
  4. Tick ‘Enable Audio Boost’, and use the slider labelled ‘Audio Boost’ to adjust the level of additional gain required.

Additionally, when upgrading a radio from firmware versions prior to version 2.02 to version 2.02 or later ‘High’ audio boost will be automatically enabled.

Note: Subsequently, audio boost may produce some additional distortion with a very loud or over modulated signal.

Optionally:
Most importantly, to allow the radio operator to change the audio boost settings during use (for example, to avoid distortions if a very loud or over modulated signal is present), you can enable a menu item or programmable key to change the level of audio boost:

  • Menu item: Under Radio > User Interface > Menu : Tick the Settings > Audio Boost tick box to enable the level of audio boost to be selected, and
  • Programmable Key: Under Radio > User Interface > Keys : Select Audio Boost in the drop down for any programmable key to allow that key to cycle the Audio Boost level between low, medium and high.
